Red Bloom

Made for a kaftan. One large flower fills the cloth, drawn in white lines, its red melting into gold and brown before a wave of indigo.

1. 1The white outlineEvery petal is drawn in one flowing white line. The line stayed white because it was wax while the colours went on.
2. 2The dotted stamensRows of tiny white dots fan out from the heart of the flower, like stamens catching the light.
3. 3The colour washInside the lines the red is blended into deeper red and brown, so the flower seems to glow rather than sit flat.
4. 4The indigo waveA wavy white line marks where the flower ends and a dark indigo ground begins.
